Dan Hurley

Director

Dan Hurley is Head of Public Affairs, Communications and Strategy for Navitas North America. He has more than 30 years of experience in politics, public affairs, strategic communications, philanthropy, post-secondary and international education.

His interest in politics began as a Young Liberal in Winnipeg. He landed his first job on Parliament Hill as an MP’s assistant and went onto become a senior advisor and later chief of staff to a senior Cabinet minister. He was a federal candidate in the 2008 election.

With a Master of Journalism from Carleton University, Dan has also worked as a broadcast journalist with CBC Radio and was communications officer for Cadets Canada while serving as a naval reserve officer and cadet instructor.

For the past two decades, Dan has held senior external relations and advancement positions in post-secondary education including at the University of Winnipeg, Vancouver Island University, and Pearson College, Canada’s United World College. He also ran his own consulting practice before taking on his current role.

His proudest achievements include launching one of the first tuition waiver programs for former youth-in-care at a Canadian university ,successfully launching and completing capital campaigns, supporting refugee students, and mentoring emerging leaders to achieve success.

Dan has served on several boards including as president of the Quadra Education Foundation, trustee with the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, director of the Forum for Young Canadians, and chair of the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance. He is also an Accredited Public Relations professional with the Canadian Public Relations Society, where he serves as an examiner and a national committee member.

Dan lives and works near Nanaimo, B.C., on the unceded territories of the Snuneymuxw and Coast Salish peoples.
